Diani's coastline opens onto some of Kenya's richest marine environments, and our island excursions are built around getting you into the water and onto the reefs, sandbanks, and islands that make this stretch of coast worth the trip.

Wasini Island Dolphin Tour

Our most-booked excursion, and for good reason. This full-day trip takes you by road to Shimoni, then by traditional dhow into the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, where dolphin sightings are common and the snorkeling is some of the best on this coast. The day includes a stop on Wasini Island itself for a Swahili seafood lunch, with an optional visit to the historic Shimoni Slave Caves. Hotel pickup and snorkeling gear are included in the price.

Robinson Island

A shorter, more affordable alternative for guests who want a half-day on the water rather than a full-day trip. Robinson Island is a natural sandbank only accessible at low tide, making it a genuinely unique spot for snorkeling and a few hours away from the beach. It's a popular choice for families with younger children or guests short on time.

Chale Island

Kenya's only private island getaway, reached by a scenic boat ride across turquoise water. This half-day excursion combines a guided boat trip with snorkeling over coral reefs and time to explore the island itself — a quieter, more relaxed option compared to the busier Wasini route.

Mangrove Tour (Kongo River)

An evening boat excursion through mangrove channels along the Kongo River, offering a different side of the coastal ecosystem than the open-water tours above. Good for guests interested in birdlife and the mangrove environment specifically, rather than snorkeling.

How to choose between them

If you only have time for one excursion, the Wasini Dolphin Tour is the most complete day out — dolphins, snorkeling, lunch, and a bit of history. If you're short on time or budget, Robinson Island delivers a strong half-day experience at a lower price point. Chale Island suits guests wanting something quieter, and the Mangrove Tour appeals to nature and birdlife enthusiasts specifically.

What's included

Across all our island excursions, hotel pickup and drop-off, guiding, and relevant park or conservation fees are included in the quoted price unless stated otherwise. Snorkeling gear is provided on the water-based tours. Resident (Kenyan/East African) rates are lower than non-resident rates, and children typically pay a reduced fee.

Booking during high season

July through October and December through March are Diani's busiest months, and morning departure slots for Wasini in particular fill up 2–4 weeks ahead. If your travel dates fall in this window, we'd recommend booking your excursions as soon as your trip is confirmed rather than waiting until you arrive.
